Highland Falls Golf Course

Highland Falls opened more than a decade ago in 1992 and, after the scores of courses to open in the later part of the decade, it has already become one of Las Vegas' more mature courses. The course was designed by one of the west's favorite, Billy Casper.

It's one of the more scenic courses in the valley and is located high above the city, offering stunning views during the day and especially in early evening rounds as the sun sets over the bright lights of the city. The greens are difficult and the trickiest part of Highland Falls, which plays a modest 6,512 yards and a 71.0 slope rating from the championship tees. There are four tee boxes, playing 5,500 yards from the forward set.

Highland Falls, along with Palm Valley Golf Club, make up Del Webb's Sun City Community in Henderson. Set at an elevation of more than 3,000 feet, Highland Falls is the highest elevated course in southern Nevada.

The links-style course supercedes the countless target-style golf courses opened later in the 1990s and into the 2000s. The course was built on rolling hills and has very few trees that line the fairways, adding to the course's wide-open feel.

Water is a small factor, as ponds come into play three times throughout the round. The signature hole is the 17th, a 168-yard par 3 with a fairway that winds right around a series of bunkers that heavily guard the small green, which features a beautiful waterfall backdrop.

Highland Falls is one of the area's top courses, and was rated as the eighth-best among public courses in Nevada in 1996.
